Amazon agrees to acquire MGM in $8.45 billion deal which includes the James Bond catalog

Amazon and MGM today announced today, May 26, 2021 that they have entered a definitive merger agreement under which Amazon will acquire MGM for a purchase price of $8.45 billion. MGM has nearly a century of filmmaking history and complements the work of Amazon Studios, which has primarily focused on producing TV show programming. Amazon will help preserve MGM’s heritage and catalog of films, and provide customers with greater access to these existing works. Through this acquisition, Amazon would empower MGM to continue to do what they do best: great storytelling.

“MGM has a vast catalog with over 4,000 films—12 Angry Men, Basic Instinct, Creed, James Bond 007, Legally Blonde, Moonstruck, Poltergeist, Raging Bull, Robocop, Rocky, Silence of the Lambs, Stargate, Thelma & Louise, Tomb Raider, The Magnificent SevenThe Pink Panther, The Thomas Crown Affair, and many other icons—as well as 17,000 TV shows—including Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Vikings—that have collectively won over 180 Academy Awards and 100 Emmys,” said Mike Hopkins, Senior Vice President of Prime Video and Amazon Studios. “The real financial value behind this deal is the treasure trove of IP in the deep catalog that we plan to reimagine and develop together with MGM’s talented team. It’s very exciting and provides so many opportunities for high-quality storytelling.”

“It has been an honor to have been a part of the incredible transformation of Metro Goldwyn Mayer. To get here took immensely talented people with a true belief in one vision. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank the MGM team who have helped us arrive at this historic day,” said Kevin Ulrich, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MGM. “I am very proud that MGM’s Lion, which has long evoked the Golden Age of Hollywood, will continue its storied history, and the idea born from the creation of United Artists lives on in a way the founders originally intended, driven by the talent and their vision. The opportunity to align MGM’s storied history with Amazon is an inspiring combination.”

Jimmy Buffett to perform with his daughter in Delray Beach in May

Jimmy Buffett with Coral Reefer Friends will perform in Delray Beach, Florida in four evening shows at the Old School Square Pavilion. All shows will start at 8 PM with doors opening at 7 PM. Tickets will go on sale April 26 at 10 AM.

“We are honored to host a music icon as beloved as Jimmy Buffett, whose songs also perfectly depict the island vibe lifestyle we offer here in Delray,” said Old School Square chief operating officer Holland Ryan. “We’re incredibly humbled that Jimmy and his team selected our safe, secure, open-air venue to bring back his live performances, and we look forward to these special nights with Jimmy’s classics and best-known gems under the stars”.

Parrot Heads had a hand in this album, after the question posted on social media, “what little-known Jimmy Buffett songs would you like him to revisit?” prompted tens of thousands of replies. Once the votes were tallied, Jimmy and his daughter and filmmaker, Delaney Buffett, began shooting a new video of the top-mentioned songs every week for his website. There are currently over four million views for the series and the acoustic album, Songs You Don’t Know By Heart, is a curation of fans’ top responses.

This release comes on the heel of his very successful record (#2 debut), Life On The Flip Side, his first studio album in seven years. Not being on tour has resulted in a very prolific time for Jimmy. Also in 2020, Jimmy was inducted into the Mississippi Songwriters Hall Of Fame. “It’s a long way from Pascagoula run, and my early days growing up in Mississippi certainly had an impact on the way I wrote songs and what I wrote about” said Jimmy. “So, thank you Mississippi for that”

Bryan Cranston Has Provided A New Explanation Behind A Popular ‘Breaking Bad’ Theory

AMC It’s been eight years since “Felina,” the finale of Breaking Bad aired, but certain questions still linger about the series and the finale. Since the finale, in fact, a number of viewers have long wondered why Walter left a watch given to him by Jesse Pinkman on a gas station payphone, a seemingly bizarre…

Ellen DeGeneres starts Season 18 apologizing for behind-the-scenes toxic work environment

Season 18 of comedian Ellen DeGeneres’ show “Ellen” premiered on ABC yesterday, September 21, 2020 with Episode 1. DeGeneres appeared in the studio as opposed to in her home where she did the show from last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yesterday’s show was done with a “virtual” audience, whereas normally human-filled seats were replaced with video screens of fans.

In January 2020 there were rumblings that things were not at all what they seem on “Ellen.” While things were happy and go lucky on set, behind-the-scenes rumors of a toxic work environment were building. Then in March 2020, more workers on the show and some actors confirmed the rumors. Throughout the summer, charges of racism, discrimination, and a toxic work environment continued. Some staffers have also said they advised guests to overly compliment Ellen because of her fragile nature. Perhaps we should have taken more seriously Ellen’s 2009 tweet, “I made one of my employees cry like a baby on today’s show. Honestly, it felt good.”

Ellen has been saying this past summer until yesterday’s airing of her show that it surprised her to learn of the allegations, and many speculate that she knew and did nothing about it.

Opening of Ellen Season 18, Episode 1. Aired September 21, 2020

The distributor of the show, Warner Bros., completed an internal investigation and ultimately fired executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman. Although Glavin has not spoken publicly about the charges, both Leman and Norman have emphatically denied the charges.

Ellen stated during yesterday’s show that she is “in a position of privilege and power and I realize with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.” She continued, “We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter.” During the show Ellen explained that she is a human being and is not always the “Be kind lady.” She noted that sometimes she gets mad, angry, impatient, sad, etc.

Ellen is reportedly worth almost $400 million and makes over $6 million per month; so her statement of privilege is accurate, as would her income inequality over the average American. While Ellen is properly financially rewarded for her success, her comments with fellow multi-millionaire are a bit much. Especially when the two continue to dispel the myth that America’s middle class is disappearing as if it’s a bad thing. The middle class is slowly reducing as people in that category are experiencing higher incomes, not because they are getting poorer.

Cinemark Theaters in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach reopen today

The Cinemark Palace 20 and XD in Boca Raton and the Cinemark Boynton Beach 14 and XD are reopening today, September 11, 2020. Cinemark will require that face masks be worn throughout their theatres. Guests may remove masks when eating and drinking inside the auditorium.

So, what is playing at the local theaters this weekend? Tenet, The Broken Hearts Gallery, Private Watch Party, The New Mutants, and Unhinged are featured along with other films.

Official Trailer for the film Unhinged starring Russell Crowe

The theaters will sanitize all high-touch and concession areas and restrooms every 30 minutes. In addition, they will disinfect auditoriums and restrooms every morning and re-sanitize auditoriums between each movie. In theatre locations with reserved seating, when you purchase tickets, Cinemark will automatically block the seats next to your party. To allow for more space, auditoriums will also have reduced capacities and staggered showtimes.

For all theatre employees, temperature checks will be mandatory during their “first 5 minutes” wellness check-in prior to each shift. Cinemark will not permit any employee who has a fever or is feeling ill to work their shift. For guests, Cinemark is following the guidelines of state and/or local authorities regarding temperature checks, so here in Palm Beach County it will not be required. Cinemark restaurants and bars will re-open under certain protocols and also under local guidelines, which means some dining options will probably not be open right away. In the meantime, limited menus may be offered temporarily at some locations, including beer, wine & frozen cocktails.

Most Americans feel the Kanye West presidential campaign is a publicity stunt

According to a YouGov survey of nearly 5,500 people, 61% believe West’s presidential campaign is a publicity stunt, while 14% do not know, and 5% of respondents feel his campaign is legitimate.

On July 4, 2020, musician Kanye West announced on Twitter he is running for President of the United States, tweeting, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION” . But then, on July 20, 2020, West tweeted, “Ima focus on the music now.”

According to a YouGov survey of nearly 5,500 people, 61% believe West’s presidential campaign is a publicity stunt, while 14% do not know, and 5% of respondents feel his campaign is legitimate.

Since then he has been placed on the Oklahoma ballot after paying a $35,000 filing fee. Though filing deadlines have already passed in many states, so West cannot be on the ballot in all 50 states.

Federally, the only form he has had to file was his Form 1 (Statement of Candidacy) which was filed on July 15, 2020 and has a Wyoming mailing address where apparently West has a ranch. The form states he is with the Birthday Party. The website URL listed on his Form 1 notes it was registered in Great Britain. The website is inactive at the time of this publication.

So, while West has officially filed with the Federal Election Commission, so has “Gay Kanye West Fish” with the Communist Party and “Kanye Deez Nutz West” of the Green Party.

West’s first campaign rally in North Charleston, South Carolina was not well received by the crowd, causing many to leave quickly after snapping a few pictures. West was wearing a flack jacket that stated “SECURITY” across the front. He did not make the deadline to be included on the South Carolina ballot.

So, we know West will not be on the ballot in all 50 states. Who will be? There are three presidential candidates expected to be on the ballot in all 50 states and they are Democrat Joe Biden, Libertarian Jo Jorgensen, and Republican Donald Trump. These are the three who have a mathematical chance in obtaining enough electoral votes to be in the White House from 2021 through 2025.

Cigar Dave moves from terrestrial radio to expand audience via two new podcasts

cigar dave generalFor fellow cigar aficionados, the Cigar Dave Show has been a regular weekly event every Saturday for relaxation and entertainment on the radio.  Cigar Dave is unapologetically anti-PC and one has to understand that when listening to his show. It is a radio show and entertainment. As an example, Dave regularly goes after vegans, for which I am one, and it is hilarious.  Cigar Dave is not only entertaining, but he is also knowledgeable about cigars.

The Cigar Dave Show has been wildly successful as “The General” and now he has launched into two different podcasts. One is still related to cigars and still called the Cigar Dave Show which is devoted to cigars and spirits. The other is now called Bold Alpha which is devoted to the “Alpha Male Lifestyle.” Both are available to subscribe where you regularly listen to your podcasts like Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, amongst others.
